The joy of a good mystery
The Man Who Died Twice is the second novel in the Thursday Murder Club series. This time, the quartet of septuagenarians is still buzzing about their recent murder case, while hoping to get some downtime at their retirement home. But when a dead body shows up, it’s a race to see if they can catch the killer before the killer catches them.
Costco Connection Considering our youth-obsessed culture, why were you drawn to a group of retirees?
Richard Osman I love having four heroes in their 70s. Our youth-obsessed culture tends to make people “invisible” after a certain age. That invisibility, combined with a lifetime of wisdom, makes Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron perfect detectives. They also know that life doesn’t stop at 70. Mischief doesn’t stop, adventure doesn’t stop and new friendships don’t stop. Those things are at the very heart of this book. With added murder, of course!
CC What else would you like readers to know about The Man Who Died Twice?
RO I’m so happy that this book is spreading some joy, warmth and love. I grew up reading Agatha Christie, and I hope there is some of her spirit in this book. It is important to escape, to spend time with characters we love and to have a mystery which keeps you turning the pages.
