Hit the road

Re: “Road house” [cover story, May 2022]. I have been camping from the age of 12 to 86—tents, tent trailers, trailers, fifth wheels and motor homes. I am 87 now and I still belong to our RV camping club.

What a wonderful editorial. You covered it all very well. Our motto is: “A family that trailers together stays together.”

Exploring Seattle

Deception Pass Bridge [“Sublime Seattle,” May 2022] is actually two bridges connecting Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island. Deception Pass Bridge, which is in Island County, spans Deception Pass, from Whidbey Island to Pass Island, and is 976 feet long. Canoe Pass Bridge, which is in Skagit County, spans Canoe Pass, from Pass Island to Fidalgo Island, and is 511 feet long. These two bridges meet in the middle on Pass Island, which may contribute to the feeling it’s one long bridge.

Cooking with the Connection

Flipping through May’s Costco Connection magazine quickly before work, and it’s full of great recipes. I’m definitely going to make these soon! This month’s edition of the magazine is worth the annual Costco membership price alone! Great ideas and articles.

Sustainability and Costco

In reading Sheri Flies’ “A year in review” [April 2022], I was thrilled to see Feeding America mentioned in regard to Costco’s Sustainability Commitment. As a Costco member and an employee of Feeding America, I extend a heartfelt thank-you to all Costco employees for ensuring that food fit for human consumption doesn’t end up in landfills, and reaches our nation’s neighbors in need of food assistance.

My husband and I were very encouraged to read the sustainability report in the April Connection and see how Costco is progressing in its sustainability commitment. We appreciate all the efforts Costco is making toward reducing waste and helping those in need, supporting forest conservation and improving packaging. These efforts can have a big impact!

Coconut coir gardening

I read about this coconut husk material [“Crazy for coconuts,” April 2022] in Costco’s magazine today! It sounds really cool. I’m OK with getting excited about eco-friendly mulch.
