11 Gift Ideas for Your Valentine

Give a sentimental gift to your significant other this Valentine’s Day – from a do-it-yourself gift to one that’s sure to dazzle.

1. Treat them to a spa day

Surprise your Valentine with breakfast in bed and an elegant plush robe. Tuck a spa gift card, a rose, and any other extra surprises into the robe pockets.

Pro-Tip: Go the extra mile by pairing your present with comfortable slippers, moisturizer, a face mask or other beauty products. Not enough room in the robe pockets? Use a basket for a do-it-yourself spa package.

2. Create a sweet treat

Find tissue paper, small boxes and candy bars. Stuff each box with their favorite treats to create an overflowing gift of love. Not a big crafter? Buy a premade basket.

Pro-Tip: Add a handmade IOU to the back of each candy bar, anything from “IOU a movie night out” to “IOU a day of doing laundry.”

3. Set up a movie night

Grab a large basket and pack it with movie must-haves: popcorn, wine, a heated blanket and their favorite candy. Buy movie tickets or find something to stream.

Pro-Tip: Top it off with a take-and-bake pepperoni pizza. If you’re feeling particularly cheesy, move the pepperoni slices into the shape of a heart before you bake.

4. Turn on the oven

Bring out the chefs! Spend the evening with your loved ones cooking Valentine’s Day treats. Now’s the time for heart-shaped brownies or red frosted cupcakes. Or have Costco do the baking for you: Drop by the bakery and pick up cookies or a sheet cake.

Pro-Tip: If you are surprising your sweetheart with a vacation, decorate a cake to represent the adventure. For example, if you’re going to the beach, decorate an ocean scene with light blue frosting, crushed graham crackers for sand and a colorful drink umbrella.

5. Enjoy memory lane

Create a thoughtful collage with a series of photos – from your wedding to vacations. Too many pictures to choose from? Make a photo book!

Pro-Tip: Add a personalized touch by writing a letter to accompany the photo book or collage. Describe the moment you took the pictures or write a romantic letter about your time together.

6. Map out a treasure hunt

Make your own treasure hunt around the house or the neighborhood. Write a series of clues or riddles that lead to a larger prize at the end – whether it’s revealing an itinerary for a weekend getaway or a cozy night in with their favorite movie.

Pro-Tip: At each clue stop, leave behind a piece of candy. Give them a bag at the beginning of the treasure hunt to collect them all.

7. Pop the question

Nothing says Valentine’s Day quite like “I do.” If you’ve been thinking of popping the question, put your proposal into action. Plan something personal and meaningful around your relationship.

Pro-Tip: Not quite ready for a proposal? Save the ring for later and gift a piece of jewelry.

8. Indulge their sweet tooth

Surprise them at work with flowers, a gift basket or a tray full of sweets. Create a platter with chocolate-covered strawberries, popcorn, heart-shaped cookies, candy, cake pops, chocolate-covered pretzels and more. Complete the gift with a heartfelt card or a framed photo.

Pro-Tip: If you’re surprising them at work, enlist a lookout. Email one of their coworkers and have them scout out the best time to arrive.

9. Smell the roses

Go for a classic, romantic gift. Present your sweetheart with a 50-stem rose bundle. Pair with a bottle of wine and wine glasses filled with their favorite candy, or a gift card to a local restaurant. Add a decadent necklace or another piece of jewelry.

Pro-Tip: Each year, give the same elegant bundle of roses with new “surprise” gifts. Start your next Valentine’s Day gift early: a journal. Log your best shared moments throughout the year.

10. Cheers to your love

Buy two bottles of their favorite beverage, whether it’s wine or whiskey. Make your gift festive with a D.I.Y. bunting banner that says, “I love you,” or, “Happy Valentine’s Day.” Hang the bunting between the two bottles.

Pro-Tip: Make your own wine label and slide it over the original. Get creative with it – whether you write a romantic love letter or a homage to your anniversary date. Make the bottle a keepsake after the wine is gone.

11. Forget me not

Let them know you’re thinking about them with something simple. Gift cards, candy or printed photos are great options.

Pro-Tip: Saving for something bigger? Start a coin jar this Valentine’s Day. Throughout the year, put all your spare change into the jar. Next Valentine’s Day, spend the funds on a mini trip or a nice date night.
